For their end term project, our students at Digital Arts and Entertainment had to design a pirate island based on a small backstory.

The story takes place during the Golden Age of Piracy, when sailors and privateers turned en masse to piracy for lack of employment. It's the age when infamous pirates like Benjamin Hornigold, Henry Jennings and Charles Vane ruled over the Caribbean.

The pirate island had to contain a more fortified area and English guard tower to defend themselves. We needed to have a grounded and realistic feeling of the setting but at the same time attractive enough by applying various design principles.

At the right you can find my ideation of the expanding pirate city around the guard tower and ideas for an interesting asset or function present on the island.
During the concept stages I came up with an fictional game title, Windbound - A pirate's revenge.
